I have a 2008 yr 308 1.6 VTI Sport which has covered only 8K miles, great car but has suffered from front suspension rattles & clunks. It is worse at slow speeds when the shocks extend rather than compress. Peugeot have changed the engine mountings, and lower arms - no improvement really.
They say that they have checked the shocks but I am not convinced. Any ideas you guys?

Had a clunk in my 307 at the back once , couldn`t figure it out for ages turned out to be the nut at the bottom of the shock needed tightened, just an idea if you have already changed droplinks and balljoints.

Thanks for the info, will ask Peugeot to check this out. Strange problem this, when driving over uneven roads, the steering goes very vague?

Never had it go vague , they sure it`s not the rack?

I thought it could be the rack, I had a very similar problem on my 60K passat, changed the rack and lower arms which cured the problem. Thing is they never bothered to change one thing at a time, so unable to pinpoint the issue.
I am visiting the garage in the morning, got some ammo now to start the discussion with them.

Had the car in the Peugeot garage today, they checked everything out and said it was ok? They tightened all the bolts on the subframe which did not improve anything.
Has anybody else experienced clunking at the front end when driving on uneven roads?
Any ideas?

I`m afraid you`re stuck with this one until it gets worse and can be identified.:(

308 suspension update

Local dealer has replaced the ball joints and still no improvement...still clunks over slight bumps. Getting fed up with this now. Anybody else had any issues with the 308 suspension?:(

Heard it could be inner joints in the rack, few 307`s had same problem.

Interesting, have you got any further information on this? I will take it up with the dealer? Easy job to fix? - more importantly would the dealer be able to physically see there is a fault as they will not replace anything which does not show a fault...

Well I have replaced ball joints on them. Your garage needs a pair of chassis ears to help

My 308 Vti Sport 2008 has exactly the same problem as yours.
Its been diagnosed as wear in the strut top mounting bearing.
Mine is going to be changed very soon. I will post soon if my 308 is any better after changing the mounting.

Hi did you ever get to the bottom of the problem, I've got a 308 HDI 2008 with the low speed clatter/rattle when going over rough ground in corners. I recently change both drop links and it passed the MOT - but still clatters away and seems to be getting worse. I noticed that Puegeot had a recall on 308's for shock absorbers rattle, however its claimed to only affect cars around 2011 for a short period.

my 307 had the same problem, turned out the drop link wasn't tight on the anti roll bar.

Yes as mentioned I originally suspected the drop links, but after changing them and still having the clattering I did a little research on the net and it would appear thta 308's (and possibly 307's) have a tendency to not show the cause at MOT time, so all the usual suspects like drop links, anti-roll bar bushes, bottom ball-joints and wishbone bushes are unlikely to be the cause.
I'm starting to think it's got to be the top shocker bearings, however I'd really like someone else who's been there to confirm - may be I'm being lazy and just don't fancy taking the strut assembly on a rainy Saturday!

kyb

wow kyb are garbage mate. i did my mondeo top mounts with kyb & they clunked after 2 months.
know a pug taxi driver needed them replaced after 5 months.
got mines from peugeot
things like top mounts, bearings, sensors, etc you're always better getting SKF/***/Febi or even better original peugeot from main dealers. expensive but really good compared to cheap crap
ps:lowering these cars really takes a heavy toll on steering rack, struts, tracking etc. ive had a lotta cars lowered & wouldnt even think about lowering another one.......ever lol
